We just kickstarted our pilot study LOST! 10 beautiful spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias) were captured with the help of our project colleague Dr. Keno Ferter, and tagged with acoustic transmitters (weight: 30g) by our extremely experienced member Dr, Robert Lennox. In addition, blood samples were taken from each tagged shark to extract and analyse DNA, and further use to quantify population genetic structures. All ten procedures went smoothly, and our receivers are currently gathering unique shark data as we speak. Our new master student Catharina will write her thesis based on the data from these ten sharks. The next step will be to tag more sharks during spring 2022, as well as recover some interesting data. Peak into our gallery for more pictures of shark tagging!
